introduction to the Vayus

“The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

- Alan Watts

Hey Team,

I’ll be in the Bay Area teaching on the Vayus later this week. There are several practice options including public classes where you can use your membership and master classes where we have the luxury of time to go slower and deeper.

The Vayus are the “winds” of the subtle body. What is the subtle body? It’s hard to define because it’s not seen but sensed. Not prove-able but relate-able. Less fact, more feeling. It is your aliveness. And the Vayus are a way to connect with the currents of your subtle body.

There are 5 Vayus and we'll unpack one per practice:

Prana Vayu is uplifting. It’s the energizing power of your breathing. It sends your heart soaring. It gives you wings and vitality. We'll play with this during the Friday 12pm class.

Apana Vayu is for releasing. It’s the cleansing power of the body. It’s settling and grounding. Like a sigh of relief. We'll have 2 hours to savor Apana Vayu Friday starting at 4:30pm

Udana Vayu is the balancing wind in the throat. Related to the master gland of the thyroid. The potential of our words and voice. Harmony here brings harmony everywhere. This the Saturday morning session.

Samana Vayu is assimilating power. Digestion is not just about things moving through, but being able to utilize what we consume. This includes media, news, and experiences, as well as food. It is hard to digest what is happening in our world, but with practice we can strengthen our capacity to be filters, transformers, catalysts for change. This session is Saturday 1pm.

Vyana Vayu is circulating. It’s the communication networks for connection and coherence. During this session, you’ll practice to experience your inherent wholeness and goodness. This will be our grand finale on Sunday morning.

It’s an honor to travel and teach at Padma. The studio is a true lotus. Deep roots with beautiful flowering. Lesley nourishes the teachers and strengthens the community. A sweet second location is opening in San Anselmo. Please support any way you can.

May your practice expand your aliveness,

Alison
