exploring inner landscapes…

+Bay Area schedule

Hey Team,

The last few weeks we’ve unpacked the Aligned Motives. While we talk about them for practice, they teach us to align our energy and action in all that we do.

Working with them asks you to turn inward. To watch your thoughts, examine your stories, notice signs and signals coming from your body. But plunging into your inner landscape can feel like being dropped into unfamiliar and uncharted territory with no map, compass or orientation. Unless.... you have a yoga practice.

Because the ancient yogis mapped the inner landscape for you. Through brilliant systems, myths, and metaphors. Like the Vayus. The internal winds. When you know them, you ride internal currents for strength and grace, ease and flow.

I’ll upack the Vayus later this week. If you’re in the Bay Area, you have the opportunity to practice with them, in person, August 2-4 at Padma Studio in Fairfax. There will be public classes where you can drop-in or use your membership and master classes for a longer, deeper practice. All sessions will be mostly movement. Align & Flow style practice. Here’s more about each session:

Friday, Align & Flow, 12-1pm.

Our theme for this session will be Prana Vayu, you’ll use your breath for power and fluid flow. Expect a dynamic practice including sun salutations and balance poses.

Friday, Master Class, 4:30-6:30pm

This session will focus on Apana Vayu, the downward moving wind, responsible for releasing, cleansing and clearing. Expect a longer, slower practice with hip-openers, psoas releases, and twists.

Saturday, Align & Flow, 8:30-9:45am

Ever wonder where your head should be during a pose? This practice will focus on Udana Vayu, the balancing wind in the throat. We’ll work with straps in standing poses to feel radically free in head, neck, shoulders, and chest. Then put it to the test with a breath-based flow.

Saturday, Master Class, 1-3pm

This session will explore Samana Vayu, the wind responsible for digestion and assimilation. Expect a slow steady burn and full-spectrum practice.

Sunday, Align & Flow, 9:30-11am

This last session puts everything together with Vyana Vayu, the circulating wind related to blood, lymph, and connective tissues. Expect side body stretches and hamstring work.

Head over to the Padma website for registration.

May your practice evoke mystery,

Alison
