3 REMINDERS about healing

Healing 1:1

Healing happens through the body. Not to the body or for the body, but through it. That has big implications. Here are 3:

#1: Healing is a power within, not an external force.

Your body is designed to live. And to heal. Healing happens through scabs and scar tissue. Runny noses and fatigue. It's the body’s innate power to re-establish harmony.

When you engage with external sources for healing, remember your part. Because it’s convenient to relinquish your power. I’ve done it. Thinking that the only place to get answers is in someone else’s office. Feeling like the only place to get relief is in someone else’s hands.

I’m not saying to not get help. I’m saying to remember that your body is the raw material someone else is working with. And you are the one in it.

This is difficult when you’re under the influence of pain or fear. (because what you think and how you think is influenced by your nervous system). Discernment is essential. When you’re uncomfortable, asking questions, sorting through things… It's happening.

#2: Healing is a process.

Healing is rarely like fixing a device, repairing your car, or solving a problem. (When healing is fast, surprising and complete, you call it something different: miraculous

Often it's approached with a quick-fix-mindset. Which leads to the gimme-a-pill hamster wheel (and symptom-whack-a-mole) that frustrates patients and providers alike.

And there's usually a conflict inside, a mixed message of whatever-it-takes-to-make-it-go-away… but-don’t-ask-me-to-change (much)… do you ever do that?

Change has friction. And uncharted territory is uncomfortable. But healing needs you to do something new. And not just once. But diligently. Like tending a garden. Where feeding, weeding, and watering is required.

In this community, we use moving and breathing for tending and healing. To create flow in the body. Adjust the dials of the nervous system. Tap into Spirit. Develop strength.

When you enjoy tending, you play the long game. The process becomes inspiring. And then healing happens regularly, not just in an emergency.

#3 Healing can be self-generated.

The ancients saw the body as a tuning fork. Postures, gestures, symbols, and sounds dialed in different frequencies.

What if your moving and breathing is dialing you in to a specific frequency? Sounds a bit woo, but have you stepped off the mat or meditation cushion and felt like a new human? Your body and mind totally different?

This happens easily when you’re beginning. Whether it’s yoga or meditation or breathwork. Over time, practice needs to be refined, more specific, dialed in again and again.

20 Minute Miracles are distilled from decades of teaching and designed for healing. The Toolkit is like an apothecary of practices where you can choose the remedy that's right for you. Maybe you need to stabilize your low back or release tension in your neck, unravel from travel or get grounded, discharge frustration or build vitality.

Like an apothecary, the options can be a bit overwhelming. Where do you start? How do you know what's best? Especially if you’ve got a cranky hip, autoimmune condition, or scoliosis?

There are place to go with your questions:

If you ask, you will get answers. To help you tend, build power within, and generate healing.

May your practice have answers,

Alison
